Could long showers affect an ankle tattoo?

I got my ankle tattoo a little more than three weeks ago, and have since taken some pretty long showers. The tattoo is now slightly swollen and red. I followed instructions, washing with antibacterial soap and then lotion, but it doesn't seem to be healing. Could the long showers be considered 'soaking'? And if so, what should I do?
